Achieve Your Dreams at Any Age
A wise man once said “age is only a number” and believe it or not, he was right. Age is simply a number marking the years of our lives yet many of us feel restricted by our age whether we’re young or young at heart. Age can control who you are and what you do. For example, as a teenager, we’re expected to go to high school, graduate and go to college. That’s it. That’s all that’s expected and the young at heart are expected to work a 9-5 job content with the possibility of being promoted to a manager. But some of us dare to have big dreams. Dreams we need to accomplish no matter what.
So if society demands you act one way because of your age, but you have a burning passion for something else, for a dream bigger than yourself, what do you do? Simple, defy the odds, make a change and achieve your dreams no matter what.
1. Believe in Your Dream As If it’s Already a Reality.
You can’t give up on something that already exists. So close your eyes and envision what your dream looks like if everything went right. Are you the CEO of a mega company, a bestselling author or the first to discover a life changing medicine? Whatever your dream is, be as specific as possible; envision your dream at its fullest. Now, when you open your eyes, the task is simple; pursue that dream with everything you have. If you can see the end clearly and believe in your dream as if it’s already accomplished, then you’re simply moving towards something that already exists and your dream will most certainly become a reality.
2. Pursue the Dream Regardless of Circumstances and Rejection.
The Harry Potter book series was rejected 37 times, Chicken Soup for the Soul was rejected 114 times, and my own book “The Guys The Roses & The Regrets” was rejected over 45 times. The simple truth is that however utterly fantastic your dream is, it will get rejected and then the thought “Maybe I should just give up now” creeps into your head. That’s when you have to step up and choose to pursue your dream regardless of rejection. Remember it’s not how many times you fall, but how many times you get back up that counts. If you believe in your dream, don’t let it fall away, press on. Those books were rejected multiple times but the authors did not give up and now ALL those books are bestsellers!
3. Be Thankful for Your Dream
A dream is a truly wonderful thing; it gives you life and hope. Without a dream life can be a pretty bleak existence but like me, you are blessed because you have a dream! You have a passion for something greater then yourself and that’s something to be thankful for. As you move towards making your dream a reality be thankful for all large and small achievements along the way. Start a gratitude journal; write down all you’re thankful for. If you’re always thankful for the good things in your life you’ll see how truly beautiful life is and how wonderful having a dream can be.
So in the end remember this, regardless of age, education, color or ethnicity you have something inside you that is truly powerful and you will rise above any circumstance or opposition to press on through and see your dream come to fruition.
